Flood waters have receded but frustration over damaged roads continues to boil to the surface.
Regional District of North Okanagan officials are upset the Ministry of Transportation has not fixed roads impacted by high water in the BX and Ashton Creek.
“Road repairs seem to be taking a lot of time,” said Mike Macnabb, BX-Silver Star director.
Mabel Lake Road is open but work continues to try and stabilize the base after part of the road was wiped out when Ashton Creek spilled its banks in early June.
In the BX, East Vernon and Tillicum roads remain closed because of flood damage in June.
Macnabb says the situation has created a significant inconvenience for residents trying to access their homes and firefighters could be delayed during an emergency.
The ministry has indicated that work cannot proceed until water levels drop, but that isn’t satisfactory to Macnabb.
“The response we’re getting from the (road maintenance) contractor is ‘We’ll fix it when we get around to it,’” he said.
RDNO officials will sit down and determine how to put pressure on the ministry to initiate repairs.
“We need a mechanism to push a little harder,” said Macnabb.
