Yellowhead Community Services (YCS) announced on Apr. 1, 2020, that thanks to funding from United Way, Lower Mainland, they can now provide North Thompson Better at Home Services in Barriere as well as Clearwater.

Better at Home services support seniors to live independently in their homes. Services include light house keeping, minor repairs, light snow shoveling and light yard work. Fees for services are subsidized, with sometimes there being no fee at all, depending on a senior’s previous years’ tax return.

The Services can also provide friendly visiting and some transportation.

“We know that getting out and about is very important and we will do all we can to support seniors to stay active,” says a YCS press release, “This service is free as we rely on amazing volunteers to partner with us. “

To be eligible for North Thompson Better at Home Services seniors must be;

• 65 years’ plus

• Live between Birch island and Louis Creek

• Live alone or with another senior

• Have a need for services

YCS notes that at this time, because of COVID-19, they are not providing in home visits, but they want everyone to be safe. However, they are providing a FREE service of grocery and prescription delivery.

Seniors do not have to be Better at Home clients, just meet the criteria above.

Please phone April at 778-208-7365 to find out more about the North Thompson Better at Home Team.
