The City of Quesnel will receive more than $400,000 to construct a bike park as well as an RV park and campground.
Northern Development Initiative Trust (NDIT) announced the funding Wednesday, May 5 as part of a pot of $1.3 million for several projects throughout central and northern B.C.
Under NDIT’s recreation infrastructure program, the city has been awarded $144,111 to establish a new multi-purpose bike park near the Quesnel and District Arts and Recreation Centre.

Included in the park design is an experienced jump park, a beginner-friendly skills area, a rubberized strider area and the realignment of the existing flow trail, according to a news release. The funding will also support the purchase of an all-age-friendly fleet of rental bikes and safety equipment.
The city has also been awarded $300,000 under the recreation infrastructure program to develop an RV park and campground, with approximately 13 sites, near the Johnston Bridge at the site of the former public works yard.
In June 2020, Mayor Bob Simpson called the plans to develop an on-river RV and tenting campground (at the downstream side of the bridge) as an opportunity that would ‘give a significant boost to their local economy in the coming years.’
