Vanderhoof residents had the opportunity to be immunized against COVID-19 at a drive-thru vaccination clinic last week.

Northern Health (NH) estimates approximately 275 doses were administered over the three-day clinic held at the Four Rivers Co-op parking lot from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 6, 7 and 8.

“Drive-thru and pop-up clinics are a couple of the ways we’re working to make getting COVID-19 vaccines as convenient and accessible as possible,” said NH regional manager, public affairs and media relations Eryn Collins.

“Our mass/community clinics have immunized significant numbers of people, and while they continue, we’re also transitioning to some other options to ensure anyone who hasn’t yet made the decision to be immunized, has a variety of opportunities to do so.”

Motorists and passengers 12 years and older did not have to get out of their vehicle to receive their first shot at the drive-thru clinic and were able to wait inside their vehicle for the post-vaccine monitoring period.

As of Monday, July 12, B.C.’s Ministry of Health estimated 78.8 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in the province have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 44.6 per cent received their second dose.

The Ministry said since December 2020 the province has administered more than 5.7 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.

A regular vaccination clinic for booked appointments 12+ will be held in Vanderhoof at the Nechako Senior Citizens Friendship Club on July 13, 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29 running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
