A number of skaters from the Vanderhoof Speed Skating Club competed and excelled at the Northern Regionals in Prince George at the end of February.
The meet was the final one for the younger skaters in the north and was attended by skaters from Dawson Creek, Fort St John, Vanderhoof, Prince George, Chetwynd, Mackenzie and Fort St. James clubs.
The results were as follows:
Mark Watney came second in the six-year-old boys category. Connor Ebert came in second and Addison Miller Gauthier came third in the nine-year-old boys category. Nigel Watney came fourth and Logan Sewell came fifth in the eight-year-old boys category. Nicole McBride came second in the eight-year-old girls category. Madisyn Seely came second in the seven-year-old girls category. Alexis Seely came second in the six-year-old girls category. Matthew Ebert came second and Tyrell McComb came fifth in the 12-year-old boys category. Ian Watney came fifth in the 11-year-old boys category.
Ann Watney-cradle also competed.
The Vanderhoof Speed Skating Club has 68 members and is in its sixth year with skaters ranging from age four to 60.
Many skaters take part for recreation and fitness but an increasing number skate competitively and are heading up to the provincial and national level.
