NY Grill & Bistro is hosting a fundraising dinner to help those displaced by the Paddington Station fire.
On Wednesday, Dec. 21, people are invited head to the restaurant between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. for an all ages event featuring live entertainment and a silent auction.
Tickets are $20 at the door, and there will also be a $10 burger, fries and beer special.
With the restaurant located next to Paddington Station, event organizer Sandy Gosche says many of NY Grill & Bistro’s regulars are residents of that building.
As firefighters battled the blaze, the restaurant gave out free food and water to those watching in horror as their homes burned, but now they want to give back even more, she said.
“As many of you know, the tenants affected by the fire at 5650 201A Street have been displaced from not only their homes but their vehicles as well,” Gosche wrote to the Times.
“At this time, they still do not know if/when they will able to get their vehicles out of the underground parking lot. It’s also noteworthy to mention that many of the tenants have pets, which makes finding a place to rent particularly difficult.”
Many of the displaced residents are in need of basic items, as they did not have insurance, or do not have family living close by to assist them, Gosche added.
At the event, the restaurant will also be accepting cash donations to help cover damage deposits, clothes, furniture, food (both pet and human) and pet necessities, including leashes, cat litter, litter boxes and pet beds.
“It’s also noteworthy to mention that with Christmas around the corner, many of these tenants have lost their Christmas gifts, so toy/gift donations would also be appreciated, as there are children who were living in this building,” she said.
