Oak Bay’s mid-winter cleanup comes in under budget

Snow removal activity only about half of budgeted amount for year

Though final figures aren’t in yet, early reports indicate that cleaning up from the winter storm that blew through Oak Bay on Jan. 18 did not break the bank.

The municipality has a budget of $70,000 for snow removal. Preliminary estimates pegged the cost for last week’s work in the $35,000 to $40,000 range.

“Everything that I saw, and from the feedback I received, our municipal workers did an excellent job in dealing with the storm,” Mayor Nils Jensen said at Monday’s council meeting.

“There was great co-operation between our public works and the police and fire department.”
