Bill Neufeld will be presenting a petition to Parksville city council on Monday, Feb. 21 with around 450 names asking the city not to make any big decisions until the official community plan is updated.
The petitions calls on mayor and council “to halt all decisions with respect to any development requiring any change of zoning or variance until completion of the new official community plan.”
The Parksville resident split the petition into two sets, getting Parksville residents to sign one and providing another for people who live in surrounding areas but have an interest in the city’s future.
Neufeld and others have stated at public meetings that it would be improper to make decisions about important developments, such as those along the waterfront, while the citizens are updating the document that helps guide the city into the future.
City director of community planning Gayle Jackson has indicated the OCP process could take another nine to 16 months and that there was no deadline or rush to complete it.
