The trio who allegedly engaged in a summer shoot-out and car chase with Okanagan Mounties will be reunited in court later this month.
Michael Edward Ellis, 39, Shawn Adam Wysinski, 32, and Ashley Collins, 19, will appear in a Kelowna courtroom Sept. 17, to deal with attempted murder charges, as well as others, that were levied against them in the wake of the August run-in with Mounties.
Ellis and Wysynski are currently being held at Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, while Collins was released on bail Sept. 17 after healing from injuries incurred during the chase.
The one-hour chase that led police from West Kelowna to Vernon, via Westside Road, started when Mounties tried to do a routine pull over of a green Dodge Caravan.
The van allegedly sped away and within minutes, shots were fired from both sides. Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the van’s wheels were shot out, but they were able to continue their getaway by carjacking at least two others in their path.
Despite the drama, Collins was the only injured party from the danger-fraught drive, although police have said the members of the three detachments involved were on tenterhooks throughout it all, as they feared for the safety of their co-workers.
New Westminster police has also been asked to investigate a bullet that struck Collins in the chase.
