One arrested in fracas on Maple Ridge's 222nd Street

Ridge Meadows Mounties have arrested a 31-year-old man after an altercation on 222nd Street about 5 p.m., Thursday.

Police were called when someone saw a man attacking a woman. The suspect then chased a passerby which resulted in another fight. Police arrived and arrested the man. Mounties say that during the arrest, the suspect struck one of the officers.

“The injuries to the citizen and the officer are minor. The initial report of a female being ‘attacked’ turned out to be a dispute between the male and a family member,” said Cpl. Brenda Winpenny.

She said the arrest took a “concerted effort from a number of police officers to finally get the suspect, who was not injured, into custody.”

He appeared in court Friday on a number of charges.
