One of three people charged in connection with a shooting incident at a Vernon convenience store in May has wrapped up his court matter.
Anthony Raymond Edwards pleaded guilty to a lesser included charge of assault in Vernon Provincial Court Wednesday. He was originally charged with assault with a weapon.
Judge Jim Threlfall sentenced Edwards to one day in jail for his role in a shooting in a 7-Eleven parking lot May 14.
Threlfall credited him with three months already served in custody.
Four people were involved in the incident and police allege that all four knew each other, and that the incident centred around drugs.
It’s alleged an individual jumped into a vehicle in which a 32-year-old Vernon man was sitting, produced a gun and demanded his wallet.
The victim fled the vehicle and was shot in the shoulder. As he ran towards the store, he was assaulted by two other individuals, receiving blows to the back and the head area.
The victim was taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, treated and released.
The alleged shooter is still in custody with his matter still before the courts while the third man charged has been released from custody but his court matters have not finished.
The victim was later arrested by police and was charged by Crown counsel with seven separate offences. Court records indicate he is in custody and his matter is still before the courts.
