RDEK rescinds remaining evacuation orders for three properties

One home was destroyed, including a few outbuildings in a fast-moving grass that sparked in Wycliffe on Thursday.

However, the Regional District of East Kootenay has rescinded an evacuation order for three homes in the area that was issued late yesterday.

No injuries were reported.

The fire forced the evaucation of five homes on Thursday, but a reception centre was set up at the Heritage Inn for evacuees with support from emergency services volunteers.

The BC Wildfire Service quickly responded to the scene with ground personnel and air support to take action against the fire which grew to an estimated 6.7 hectares.

The cause is unknown at this time, but fire crews are investigating.

Residents of the area are asked to be mindful of crews that may be working in the area Friday to restore power and other services.
