One more death at McKinney Place for total of 14 to date

The Oliver Sunnybank Retirement also grew overnight

There has been another COVID-19 related death at McKinney Place long-term care home in Oliver, bringing the total to 14 deaths since the outbreak began in early December.

There have been three deaths at the Oliver home in less than two days.

McKinney Place has 77 cases according to Interior Health: 54 residents and 23 staff.

“Today, Interior Health is reporting an additional death at McKinney Place in Oliver,” said Susan Brown, president and CEO of Interior Health.

“It is important for us to remember that each death impacts families, friends and entire communities. With increased COVID-19 activity throughout Interior Health, it remains critically important for all of us to follow public health orders and guidance to protect ourselves and those we love.”

Sunnybank Retirement Home in Oliver now has two residents who have tested positive for COVID-19.

An outbreak was delcared on Jan. 6 after four Sunnybank staff tested positive.

The long-term care facility is the second in Oliver to have an outbreak.

The outbreak at Village by the Station in Penticton stays at five residents and four staff. One resident was reported on Dec. 29 to died of COVID-19.
