OUR VIEW: Time to get tough on young rodeo revelers in Surrey

On Friday night, teenaged drunkenness stained an otherwise awesome rodeo weekend.

Decent kids should be able to enjoy the midway rides without worrying about some drunken young fool yarking on them or trying to pick a fight.

There was a time when youngsters were able to enjoy midway rides without having to get liquored up first.

What happened?

Consider the Northwest Washington Fair, held in Lynden every August. Despite a high-profile incident four years ago, you generally don’t find the teens there getting drunk and abusive at Lynden’s midway. So, why here?

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr said our local police force has a very low tolerance for buffoonery. We hope during next year’s rodeo weekend, Mounties will be even stricter when it comes to underage drinking than they were this year. Young hooligans must clearly understand that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated by the majority looking for good, clean fun.
