Outages leave about 13,000 Shuswap homes and businesses without power

BC Hydro say their crews are responding to restore power as fast as they can.

Update 10:28 a.m. Dec. 31:

According to BC Hydro, 30,000 customers in the Thompson/Shuswap region are without power due to the heavy snowfall in the area. The utility provider reports their crews are responding as quickly as possible to restore power.

In the Shuswap alone, thousands don’t have power. Approximately 4,900 hydro customers are without power in the South Shuswap. In Chase, the power is out at 1,295 homes and businesses. More than 3,000 customers are affected by the outage in the North Shuswap and 3,559 are without power in the Sicamous area.

The stated cause for most of the outages are transmission circuit failures.

Several outages throughout the Shuswap have left hundreds without power as BC Hydro works to bring residents back online.

Nearly a dozen small to medium outages are within the North Shuswap, between Little Shuswap Lake and Anglemont. The biggest outage, caused by a motor vehicle accident, has affected 837 residents near Mabel Lake.

The closest outage to Salmon Arm has affected 24 residents West of Foothill Road, South of 30th Ave. and is still under investigation.

Reports on social media indicate power lines are down in the Herald Park area in Sunnybrae.
