Dozens of people have voiced their frustration online after garbage was illegally dumped at the Nakusp Landfill on April 1.

A photo posted to social media by a Nakusp resident shows garbage bags, cardboard boxes and bottles thrown around a container at the landfill that is already filled with waste.

Abuse of recycle bins will raise costs or see them removed

According to the Regional District of Central Kootenay’s website, household waste has to be placed in bags if it’s being dumped in local landfills. RDCK stated waste also has to fit in a typical garbage bag if it’s being dumped.

In total, 24 people commented on the social media post online.

An interview request from the Regional District of Central Kootenay about the illegal dumping was not immediately returned to Arrow Lakes News.
