Over 44 properties has been ordered to evacuate early Thursday morning because of the immediate danger of the Brenda Creek wildfire, south of Brenda Mine.

The evacuation order was issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) due to immediate danger to life safety due to the Brenda Creek wildfire in Electoral Area “H”.

Central Okanagan Search & Rescue and RCMP have been expediting the evacuation due to the fact that it was when most people were sleeping at 4:30 a.m.

The fire is also in danger of burning BC Hydro’s only power grid in the area.

The fire is also close to cabins, some people are saying on social media.

The blaze broke out Wednesday night about 40 kilometres from West Kelowna and estimated to be 40 hectares in size, as well as highly visible from the roadside.

There are currently six B.C. Wildfire Service personnel responding to this incident with three helicopters, air tanker support and additional resources en route.

The fire is classified at this time as out of control.
