North Okanagan residents will have several opportunities to celebrate our local Paralympians.

CIBC and the Canadian Paralympics Committee will hold an event for Josh Dueck and Sonja Gaudet in Vernon Wednesday and for Ina Forrest in Armstrong Thursday. There will also be a community event Wednesday at the Performing Arts Centre.

“CIBC is celebrating the accomplishments of our Paralympic athletes as they return home from the Sochi Paralympic Games,” states a release.

“We look forward to celebrating with their family, friends and our community.”

The event for Gaudet, who won gold in wheelchair curling, and Dueck, who took away gold and silver in sit-skiing, takes place at the CIBC on 30th Avenue in Vernon Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

On Thursday, Forrest will be at the CIBC on Pleasant Valley Boulevard in Armstrong from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

The community will gather Wednesday to pay tribute to Forrest, Gaudet and Dueck Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre.

“Representatives from the City of Vernon, the Regional District of North Okanagan, our MLA’s office, the Silver Star Ski Club and the Vernon Curling Club will be there to congratulate our athlete,” said Elaine Collison, one of the organizers and a friend of Gaudet.

“Folks will have an opportunity to see the beautiful Paralympic medals and talk with Sonja, Ina and Josh. Please join with us and provide your community support.”
