A structure fire Sunday in Parksville has been deemed suspicious and has now been handed over to the RCMP.
Parksville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a single-storey structure fire on Pioneer Crescent in the early hours of Sunday (Feb. 11). Assistant fire chief Tyrone Heigh said crews arrived on scene shortly after 2 a.m.

Once on scene, Heigh said, crews found two separate fires inside the home which he added was “definitely suspicious.” Heigh noted the house was vacant at the time of the fire.
There was “a fair bit” of smoke and the fire damage was most significant in the kitchen hallway area, Heigh added. He also said fire crews managed to get the fire knocked out pretty quick.
“Due to the suspicious nature of the fire, the investigation has been handed over to the RCMP,” Heigh said.
