The Oceanside RCMP are recommending an assault charge for a 66-year-old Parksville man who drives a blue Mercedes.

The man is allegedly the one involved in a fight with a motorcyclist after the Mercedes drove extremely close to a pair of motorcyclists on Highway 19.

Roxanne Rose-Bouchard was one of the bikers and described the incident, saying she and her husband Trent Bouchard were driving in the slow lane on Sept. 2 when the Mercedes suddenly appeared behind them.

“So close,” she said. “He was playing a game, and he came to the side of me… and then around my husband, and his car actually grazed the knee brace on my husband’s leg as we he went past.”

To her surprise, when she and her husband arrived on their street in Qualicum Bay, the same Mercedes was there, and Trent blocked him in to confront him, she said.

“We blocked his way out and Trent started yelling at him that he could have killed us. The man got out of his car and they started fighting,” Roxanne said in a Facebook post.

The RCMP began an investigation, and notified the NEWS on Sept. 18 that RCMP had arrested a 66-year-old Parksville man, the driver of the Mercedes, said Cpl. Jesse Foreman.

He said the man was released, with RCMP recommending a charge of assault.

“His first appearance is set for October 23. The matter is now before Crown Counsel to form a decision on whether to proceed with (a charge) of assault,” said Foreman.
