The City of Parksville will celebrate its 75th birthday on June 19, 2020.

The city is now officially in its 75th year, having been incorporated on June 19, 1945.

At a regular meeting on June 17, council approved moving forward with a 75th birthday select committee to plan events and activities in 2020. The committee will collaborate with community organizations and existing events to promote the city’s 75th birthday as well as plan, promote and stage family friendly festivities that celebrate Parksville and which foster a sense of community pride and promote community involvement.

Mayor Ed Mayne declared 2020 as the city’s birthday year and will sign a proclamation recognizing 75 years of municipal government.

“It’s not every day a community gets to celebrate 75 years and we’ll do it in style with birthday festivities for the whole community,” said Mayne in a press release. “I look forward to learning what the committee has planned and also look forward to an exciting year for our residents.”

Council encourages public input and suggestions; please email your ideas for events or festivities to info@parksville.ca. Members of the committee will be appointed by Mayne.
