Press Release – District of Clearwater Flash Flood
On Aug. 2 Clearwater was hit with a thunder storm accompanied by a heavy rainfall resulting in flash flooding. Some parts of the community were hit harder than others – Weyerhaeuser Subdivision, Clearwater Flats, Park Drive area and Wyndhaven.The storm lasted between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Rain carried considerable amounts of sand, soil and debris down and across municipal roads as well as flooding some homes primarily along Robson Street. Roads undermined by the event included Clearwater Village Road (Steggs Hill, Candle Creek and Dunn Lake Roads – within the municipal boundaries. The travelling public are encouraged to use caution when travelling these roads.Following a disaster, the provincial government may declare the event eligible for Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA). If DFA is declared, the DFA program may compensate individuals for essential uninsurable losses and/or reimburse local governments for damaged infrastructure.If any public within these areas have been impacted by this overland flooding, they are asked to contact the District of Clearwater office 250-674-2257 so staff can create an inventory. It is important that if the public experience damage and are going to do any remediation, please be sure to document with pictures.
