Drivers who regularly motor along the Pat Bay Highway will have noticed the tell-tale signs of construction and paving work along the route between Sayward and Haliburton roads.
Work began around July 4 with the removal of the concrete barriers dividing the south bound and north bound lanes. According to the B.C. transportation ministry, much of the work will be done at night, when traffic is less, to reduce the impact on motorists.
Approximately three kilometers of the route will be repaved and improvements will be made to the right-hand turning lane at Cordova Bay Road.
Once complete, the lane area will allow only right-in and right-out traffic from that road.
The province says the timing at both the Sayward and Haliburton road traffic signals “will be adjusted to accommodate the expected traffic pattern changes.”
The work, to cost around $3.8 million, will not occur during holiday weekends and is expected to wrap up by the early fall.
