A Saanich man is in hospital with serious injuries after rolling his vehicle this morning and wedging it under the Royal Oak overpass.
Saanich police were called just after 7 a.m. to the single-vehicle crash, which shut down the southbound lanes of the Pat Bay Highway for an hour an a half.
“It took firefighters 45 minutes to extricate the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle,” Staff Sgt. Todd Bryant said.
The man is expected to be in hospital for a number of days. His injuries are considered serious, but non life-threatening.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
“There are no indications that weather caused this. There’s no indication another vehicle was involved. Driver’s are responsible for the safe operation of their vehicle at all times,” Bryant said.
