Paving the way for a $500,000 Leigh Road upgrade

Work will be paid for through road development cost charges and a grant of $260,00 from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities

Call it a combination curb service and facelift.

The City of Langford has paved the way for $555,000 of improvements on Leigh Road between Goldstream and Dunford avenues.

The work, awarded to G & E Contracting at the March 16 regular meeting of council, will include the installation of north and south driving lanes, a middle turn lane as warranted, a paved multi-use pathway on the east side of Dunford Avenue and the installation of street lighting.

The city will be formalizing on-street parking as well where possible, said Michelle Mahovlich, Langford director of engineering.

“We are paving the pathway instead of using a concrete sidewalk to preserve as many of the trees as possible,” Mahovlich said.

The work will be paid for through road development cost charges and a grant of $260,00 from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities at no cost to Langford taxpayers, Mahovlich added.

Details of the construction schedule are being finalized, and residents will be notified at the appropriate time, she said.

Improvements to the south side of Dunford Avenue are a requirement of the Westhills project and should commence in the near future.
