The 15th annual Paws for a Cause was held at City Park Sunday morning.
The Kelowna SPCA fundraiser was raising money for animal cruelty with all of the funds staying in Kelowna at the SPCA shelter. The shelter provides a roof for thousands of animals every year, and at a bill of about $600 per animal, fundraisers like Paws for a Cause are vital.
“It’s extremely important, it’s around $1,000,000 to just keep the branch going yearly,” said Kaylyn Robinson, Animal Care Supervisor. “All of the money goes towards caring for the animals, and the number of animals just keeps growing every year. All of those funds that come in go strictly towards the care of the animals, so it’s very important.”
Paws for a Cause featured 13 different vendors, a dog agility course, and 1km and 3km walks. The goal of the fundraiser was $75,000, and although final numbers haven’t been tallied yet, Paws for a Cause was well on it’s way to reaching that goal. Robinson explained they had around 200 people register for the fundraiser, a similar number to last year, with a registration fee of $25 plus many donations from individuals and groups.
