Peachland council has opted to forego a short-term fix for an area on Renfrew Road where a landslide took place Jan. 6.
The municipality plans to proceed immediately with what it is calling a long-term, permanent solution to fix the hillside and create stability.
The work is expected to start in two weeks and will cost $750,000. It will take four to six weeks to complete. The municipality is hoping to get a provincial grant to help pay for the work.
The geogrid material and earth to be used to shore up the hillside will be hauled in at night to reduce the impact of the work on the highway below the slide area and the compaction will take place during daylight hours.
Meanwhile, Renfrew Road remains closed at the location of the slide and the area is still fenced off.
