The mid-afternoon sun is being blamed for an accident that sent a pedestrian to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Wednesday.

RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian hit in the crosswalk at the intersection of 32nd Street and 39th Avenue at 3:30 p.m.

The driver of the car was travelling west on 39th Avenue when he turned left onto 32nd Street and struck what police describe as a middle-aged female pedestrian who was in the crosswalk.

“The driver advised police he was unable to see the victim in the crosswalk due to the sun in his eyes,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

The woman suffered broken legs, and a broken left shoulder as a result of the accident.

The 17-year-old driver from Vernon was issued a ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
