A 35-year-old pedestrian has been killed in Maple Ridge after a vehicle collided with them at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Boxing Day evening.

The incident occurred in the 20300-block of Lougheed Highway on Monday, Dec. 26, when a white Honda SUV travelling westbound struck the pedestrian, said Ridge Meadows RCMP Sgt. Amanda Harnett.

Upon arrival, emergency crews attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful.

“The victim… sadly was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Harnett said.

The small stretch of Lougheed Highway was closed for several hours in both directions as Mounties investigated. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service, and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the incident.

“Early investigation results and witness statements suggest the man was not utilizing a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident,” Harnett shared.

She noted the driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Driver impairment, by drugs or alcohol, have been ruled out as a factor, Harnett said, sending condolences to the man’s family and friends.
