At 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 22, police and emergency crews from 100 Mile House were called to a serious collision on Highway 97 near the intersection of Tatton Station Road.

A 25-year-old male, believed to be from Prince George, had been walking in the middle of the north-bound lane at that location.

The driver of a fully loaded transport truck was travelling north bound at a reduced rate of speed. The pedestrian was struck by the tractor unit and carried north approximately 130 feet.

The man was severely injured but conscious when ambulance and rescue crews arrived on scene. He was transported to 100 Mile District General Hospital, stabilized and subsequently taken Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops where he is recovering from surgery.

Preliminary investigation determined that, by driving below the speed limit, the transport truck driver prevented this collision from being a fatality. There are indications that the pedestrian had consumed liquor.

The investigation into the collision is continuing, but no charges are being considered at this time.
