Local drivers apparently are not getting the text message or otherwise when it comes to distracted driving.
Members of the Penticton RCMP traffic division did a blitz recently in various areas of the city resulting in 28 charges, approximately $10,000 worth, over a 10-hour period relating to the use of cell phones while driving.

Officers in plainclothes watched for vehicle operators talking or texting, who were then pulled over by waiting members and issued a $368 ticket.
According to Cpl. Ted Manchulenko, despite the steep fines, people are continuing to use their phones, something which results in a large number of serious accidents.
