With wildfire season coming on, the Penticton Fire Department wants people living in high-risk wildfire and urban interface areas to be prepared.
On May 6,the fire department, supported by Royal LePage Locations West, is hosting National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day activities on May 6 at the Sendero Canyon, 1945 Carmi Ave. (at the end of Brent Drive).
Fire Chief Larry Watkinson encourages everyone to “work together to reduce the risk of wildfire damage.” Plan and participate in a risk reduction or wildfire preparedness activity in your neighbourhood and then join the community team at Sendero on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for hot dogs and refreshments.
May 7 to 13 is Emergency Preparedness Week, with the theme of Plan. Prepare. Be Aware. It is meant to help Canadians take action to protect themselves and their families during emergencies by knowing the risks, making a plan, and creating an emergency kit. This year’s theme highlights the importance of having these measures in place but specifically emphasizes the need to keep up to date on current conditions, like the weather, that might affect you.
