For the first time since April, the Penticton Indian Band has only a single active case of COVID-19.
The band’s chief and council confirmed the news in a community notice issued on June 4.
At its height, the surge of COVID-19 numbered 22 active cases across the Penticton Indian Band.

In the notice, the band revealed that during the surge they had found a higher percentage of direct contacts had tested positive late in their isolation, and called for members to stay mindful of health guidelines while gathering inside or outside.
The drop in cases allowed the band’s health teams time to put together a second COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
Over that clinic, the PIB distributed over 600 first and second doses.
The clinic was also open to youth aged 12 and up, and many of those who received their first dose were youth.
“We would like to thank the youth who received their first vaccine, it means a lot to us all,” reads the notice.
