Parksville’s 2020 sand sculpting theme, as determined by the voting public, will be ‘Roaring’20s’.
With 733 votes, 50 per cent of people voted for the winning theme. Behind was ‘Topsy Turvy’ with 30 per cent of the votes and ‘Celebrate!’ with 20 per cent. This year, Beachfest’s 2020 Quality Foods Sand Sculpting Competition and Exhibition will take place from July 10 to Aug. 16.
“We are always excited to learn what resonates with the public for a theme”, said event manager Wendy Sears in a press release. “We are currently in the process of selecting our sculptors for this year and they appreciate knowing our theme, so they can start to plan.”

Last year’s theme was ‘Myths and Legends’, which beat out ‘Planes, Trains, Automobiles’ and ‘Carnival.’
Society president Cheryl Dill said the opening weekend, entertainment and a new event will reflect the chosen theme.
“We aim to please the public and very much appreciate their input in helping us chart the course for Parksville’s summertime hallmark event,” said Dill in a press release.
The annual event will feature artists from across the globe sculpting sand. More than 115,000 visitors attended last year, with admission donations supporting 25 charities in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area. For more information visit www.parksvillebeachfest.ca.
