The Perry Ridge fire burning west of Winlaw expanded by about 30 hectares since Saturday and is now estimated at over 80 hectares.
“Operations has not given me any word on containment at this time,” said Jordan Turner, fire information officer for the Southeast Fire Centre who was reached by telephone Sunday morning. “What I’m being told is that it is not contained at this time. It spread quite a bit overnight because of a wind change but we are continuing to work on it.”
Turner said there are air tankers, eight helicopters, 60 firefighters and five wildfire management branch officers working the fire.
“The bigger air spray water bombers were working it yesterday, including the Martin Mars water bomber but it has since been taken off this fire,” said Turner. “It’s [the fire] not threatening any roads, structures or people so the major part of our attack is still by air.”
Turner said they may not have information about containment of the fire for some time.
The fire is the only fire of note currently burning in the Southeast Fire Centre.
