Between Apr. 21 and Apr. 27, 2014 Burns Lake RCMP responded to a total of 85 calls for service and lodged seven prisoners.
Intoxicated teenager
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Apr. 21, 2014 police received a call for service to the ravine between 8 Ave. and 5 Ave. in Burns Lake for a female young person who was passed out. Upon arrival BC ambulance was on scene and dealing with the young person who was transported to the Lakes District Hospital for examination. The young person was later medically cleared, lodged in cells until sober and release to a parent.
Fleeing make driver
At approximately 4:25 p.m. on Apr. 22, 2014 police observed a pickup truck with no license plate traveling westbound on Colleymount Road. Police located the suspect motor vehicle in the lineup for the ferry and had a discussion with the driver. Stemming from the discussion the driver proceeded to drive away. Additional police resources were dispatched as the adult male driver of the pickup proceeded to travel westbound on the Colleymount Road. The suspect vehicle and driver were located at a residence on the Colleymount Road where the driver was arrested and returned to Burns Lake detachment. The adult male was lodged in cells and later released before a justice for first appearance in Provincial court in June. Police have recommended charges including one count each of Obstructing a Police Officer and Flight from Police, pursuant to the Criminal Code in addition to two counts of Assault a Peace Officer pursuant to the Criminal Code.
Excessive speed
At approximately 7:35 p.m. on Apr. 23, 2014 while conducting traffic enforcement on Hwy. 35 police observed a motor vehicle traveling southbound on Hwy. 35 near the Omineca Ski Club traveling at a high rate of speed. Police activated their radar and clocked the motor vehicle traveling 155 km/hr in a posted 90 km/hr zone. Police initiated a traffic stop and issued the adult female driver a ticket for excessive speed, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license and had her motor vehicle impounded.
Pet detective
At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Apr. 24, 2014 police received a call for service involving the theft of a dog from its owner in a store at the Lakeview Mall. Police investigation resulted in being able to identify who had the dog, where the dog was located and facilitate getting the dog back to its owner. At the request of the owner a charge of theft was not pursued in this matter.
Females fighting
At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Apr. 25, 2014 police received a call for service to a residence in the 100 block of Chas Avenue regarding a fight in progress. Police investigation determined that two adult females were involved in a fight with one of the females sustaining a broken nose and requiring medical attention. The injured female was taken to the Lakes District Hospital for treatment. Police arrested the alleged adult female responsible for injuring the other female and released on documents for Provincial court in Burns Lake in July 2014.
Stabbing
At approximately 7:55 a.m. on Apr. 26, 2014 police received a call for service to assist BC ambulance at a residence in the 100 block of Tsa Street in Burns Lake. Police investigation determined that an adult female had stabbed an adult male with glass from a broken bottle. The male was transported to the Lakes District Hospital with multiple lacerations to the head area. Police arrested the alleged female suspect for the assault and released on documents for Provincial court in July 2014. Police are recommending a charge of Assault Causing Bodily Harm. Assault with a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon For Dangerous Purpose pursuant to the Criminal Code.
