Thieves try unsuccessfully to steal the automated teller machine at the Petro Can in Chase for the second time this year, resulting in a boarded up door and window.

“Smash and run” thieves smashed and ran, but ran away empty handed.

The Chase Petro-Canada Gas Station fell victim to an attempted theft in the early morning hours of Aug. 2.

While the thieves were not able to get away with anything, they were able to cause an extensive amount of damage.

Chase RCMP report that two males dressed in dark clothing and faces covered were caught on a surveillance camera.

The feed shows the thieves using a stolen pickup to smash through the window of the gas station before attempting to steal the ATM inside by using a rope hooked up to a truck.

The thieves attempted to use the truck to drag the ATM out of the gas station but were unsuccessful as it was cemented to the floor.

They soon fled the scene empty handed, abandoning the stolen truck on VLA Road.

RCMP have since seized the truck and it is being examined by the Kamloops Forensic Identification Section for evidence.

This is the second break-in that has occurred at the Chase Petro-Can in the last year, both of which resulted in a broken front door and window.
