A car skirts around a washout that almost swept away the road from Highway 5 to Birch Island on Friday, May 12. Cause appeared to be a culvert under the highway that plugged, diverting water down a second culvert.

At about the same time in Wells Gray Park a washout took out the road between Helmcken Falls and Clearwater Lake, leaving several tourists stranded. The road was reopened as of Sunday afternoon. Cause of the washout in the park was believed to have been a beaver dam that collapsed.
