Abbotsford restaurant Nine Downtown Kitchen & Lounge hosted an intimate performance last week by Bonds of Mara, a new rock supergroup comprising past-and-present members of Canadian rock stalwarts like My Darkest Days, Default, and I Mother Earth.
Bonds of Mara is on a cross-country tour, and the band’s newest single is getting considerable airplay. Bu tlast Tuesday’s free, unpublicized show was special. The band had been practicing in the home of Nine Downtown owner Spencer Clark, and much of the small audience consisted of friends and family of Clark and bassist Dave Benedict, who lives in Abbotsford. The band also gifted Clark’s mother a T-shirt.
Three fans in particular – Benedict’s two daughters Amelie and Saffron, and their friend Zoe – were front and centre for much of the show. Singer Bryan Crouch did his best to entertain, and by the end of the show, they were showing each other how to do rock hand signs.
