The region is gearing up for the coming school year by making repairs to it’s educational buildings and outdoor recreation areas.

Fraser-Cascade School District 78 is spending $200,000 to re-roof Agassiz Secondary and an additional $50,000 to install an underground all-weather sprinkler system beneath the sports field.

“The sprinkler  system is a joint venture with the municipality,” school district maintenance supervisor Mike Repstock said. “The field was getting rough and the upgrade was asked for by the principal. Kids were getting injured and it was felt that it was better to start from scratch so we could have a better field to maintain.”

Agassiz’s tech shop and main school entryway is undergoing re-roofing and the library’s receiving a ground up renovation. Carpeting is being eliminated, a new floor put in and new furniture added.

Hope Secondary’s front facing will be re-stuccoed as part of general renovations in the lead up to September 6.

Kent Elementary’s getting a new roof and Harrison Hot Springs Elementary a new all-day kindergarten portable.

“It’s first-class stuff,” Repstock said about the Langley manufactured portable.

The portable will be joined to the main building to shield kids from the weather.
