A pickup truck lost its trailer, crashed and rolled over soon after arriving off the ferry at Nanaimo’s Duke Point on Monday night.

A Dodge Ram pickup crashed at about 5:20 p.m. Nov. 2 on the Duke Point Highway near Maughan Road.

Emergency crews on scene said the motorist had disembarked the ferry and was travelling southbound on the highway when the incident happened. The trailer and truck were separated and a collision with a concrete barrier along the highway caused the vehicle to roll over more than once. The truck came to a stop upright in the opposite direction it had been headed, in the northbound lanes.

Crews said the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was fortunate to have not even sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Three of the four highway lanes were closed as crews cleared the scene, but traffic was light and was not impacted.
