A pilot emerged unscathed but shaken after her plane took a nose dive upon landing on Friday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to a call of a plane crash at the Penticton airport before noon, finding a Cessna aircraft sitting nose down on the tarmac.
“It was a single-engined Cessna that touched down a little hard on the runway and it lifted it up on its nose onto the propellor with the tail in the air,” said deputy fire chief Dave Spalding. “The single occupant pilot was not injured but was taken to hospital just to be sure.”
Bystanders who were watching the fire department spray the tarmac confirmed that the female pilot seemed to not be injured. They said they saw the pilot hop out of the plane walk around.
Spalding said two fire engines and a rescue truck responded to the airport and sprayed foam on the runway because some fuel was spilled during the accident.
“We foamed the area and put the plane back on its wheels so it could be towed off the runway. We cleared the fuel and the foam off and then the airport had to do an inspection to make sure there was no damage and then they were back up and running. That whole process took about an hour,” said Spalding.
