Pit bull owner walked away without a fine

City chose not to give him a ticket for having his animal off leash as the pit bull had been put down.

The owner of a pit bull that viciously attacked a woman didn't get a ticket from bylaws, nor will he face criminal charges.

The owner of a pit bull that savagely attacked a woman will not be getting a bylaw ticket for having the animal off leash.

On June 20 at about 10:20 a.m., Brenda Moon, 63, was walking by a convenience store at 91 Avenue and 120 Street when she was attacked by a grey and white pit bull.

While the dog was on a leash, the owner was not holding it and the dog lunged at Moon’s forearm.

Her injuries were significant. Moon suffered severe lacerations and bones were sticking out of her arm. At least one surgery was required.

The dog has since been put down.

Because the owner was not in control of the leash, he is in violation of the Dog Responsibility Bylaw. As such, he faced fines of up to $2,000, plus the costs of prosecution.

Manager of Bylaw Enforcement Jas Rehal said the owner of the dog was not fined in this case.

“We didn’t proceed with a fine or a ticket,” Rehal told The Leader Monday. “We feel that ultimately, his dog was put down and we felt that was sufficient.”
