Jake Rudolph has resigned as chief administrative officer of Pitt Meadows to take on a role as the new deputy city manager in Abbotsford.
Rudolph, who has been with Pitt Meadows for the past 13 years, takes over his new role Oct. 10. In his 30 year career in local and regional government he has worked in four provinces.
Rudolph said he’s looking forward to moving to a larger city with a significantly bigger budget and the challenges it brings.
“I don’t see this as a step backwards,” said Rudolph. “It’s a much larger city, with a population of more than 141,000 and a budget of$260 million.
He said his new role in Abbotsford will provide significant challenges and opportunities to further his career. Rudolph said he valued his time in Pitt Meadows and was thankful for the tremendous experiences he’s had over the past 13 years.
Pitt Meadows Mayor Deb Walters said the opportunity is a step up for Rudolph.
“I think it speaks volumes of our municipality that we have large organizations looking at our staff,” said Walters.
Deputy CAO Kim Grout will fill in as CAO in the meantime while council reviews the CAO position.
The position of deputy city manager in Abbotsford was created after the city announced restructuring plans in June. Rudolph is expected to take over leadership roles for a number of services, including finance and corporate services, economic development, and property services. The City of Abbotsford employs more than 800 staff.
Abbotsford city manager George Murray said Rudolph’s experience will be an important factor in the city’s attempt to restructure some of its key department functions.
“As our focus remains on continuous improvement, I expect that Jake’s broad background in local government management will help us to bring best practice to all that we do,” said Murray.
