The Pitt Meadows Arena’s Gold Rink is back in action after leaks in the arena’s roof forced its closure last week.
Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows parks and leisure services reopened the rink on Tuesday, much to the delight of the lacrosse players who play on the concrete floor of the rink during the summer months.
A respite from the rain last weekend allowed crews to finish their work on the roof as part of the rinks $7.5 million renovation.
The leaks have been an ongoing problem for years at the aging arena. However, a new roof membrane installed as part of the renovations is intended to put an end to the puddles and icy stalagmites that have become a common sight at the rink.
Unforeseen repairs to shore up piles under the arena have delayed completion of the first phase of the project at least until June, driving up construction costs from $6.8 million.
