A hat trick of impaired stops in Central Saanich have police reminding the public to party responsibly.

The first driver was stopped around 9 p.m. near Wallace Drive and Mount Newton X Road. The driver showed signs of impairment and after a roadside screening the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside suspension. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days and towed.

While the officer was wrapping up dealings with that driver, another flagged him down to report a possible impaired driver. That vehicle was stopped in the 7400 block of Wallace Drive. After an impaired investigation that driver too was issued a 30-day roadside suspension. The vehicle was impounded and towed.

“We need to keep impaired drivers off the road,” said. Cpl. Janis Jean, media liaison for Central Saanich Police. “This has a significant secondary layer of potential catastrophic consequences,” she added, referring to the six passengers who chose to ride with the alleged impaired drivers. “If you’re going to go out and party, plan ahead.”

A third driver was stopped during a Counterattack road check at Mount Newton X and Central Saanich roads shortly after 11 p.m. That driver was issued a three-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for three days.
