BC Hydro is advising customers around the lake to shut off and unplug their appliances for about an hour this coming Sunday morning.

On Nov. 6, area residents can expect to be without power from 6 a.m. to about 7 a.m. as the company carries out planned maintenance.

“The work that requires the outage is commissioning work to energize a recently replaced transformer at the Lake Cowichan substation,” said Karla Louwers, BC Hydro public affairs officer, in an email. “The outage will impact all customers serviced from the Lake Cowichan substation. This includes Lake Cowichan, Youbou, Mesachie Lake and Honeymoon Bay.”

BC Hydro issued an announcement of the planned outage, which had originally been schedule for Sept. 18, in which they reminded residents to unplug electronics, electrical heaters, major appliances, and to turn off all lights.

“We’ll restore power as soon as we can.”
