Saanich Police have arrested a suspect in a January sexual assault at a Church Avenue home.
David Hope was arrested April 5 in Saskatoon. The 43-year-old is facing charges of sexual assault, break and enter, two counts of robbery and two counts of forcible confinement. Major crime detectives with Saanich Police travelled to Saskatoon to make the arrest with the assistance of the Saskatoon Police Service.
“Mr. Hope has lived in various western provinces and has family ties to Vancouver Island.” said acting Sgt. Jereme Leslie with Saanich Police. “The investigation revealed that Mr. Hope left the province shortly after the offence occurred.”
Two young women entered a Shelbourne Street coffee shop in distress on the night of Jan. 27, reporting that they had been sexually assaulted in their home on the 1500 block of Church Avenue.
Saanich Police released a video of the suspect and canvassed the neighbourhood for information on the suspect. Saanich Police dedicated a number of resources dedicated to the crime including officers from the patrol division, intelligence section, community engagement division, the forensic identification section the street crime unit and major crime unit. The investigation also received significant assistance from both the Victoria Police Department and the Saskatoon Police Service.
