Police arrest suspect in several area thefts

A prolific thief may be off the street for a while.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, at approximately 9:15 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a complaint that a phone had been stolen from a locked vehicle on Shuswap Street in Salmon Arm.

Someone had smashed the driver’s side window to access the vehicle. While on scene, police received several other calls indicating that a male had been seen checking other vehicles.

Police patrolled and located a suspect matching the description of the thief a short distance away.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man, was found in possession of stolen property and drugs on scene, was arrested and held in custody for court.

The man was also found to be wanted on an outstanding warrant for arrest in B.C. and numerous non-returnable warrants from Atlantic Canada.

Police say they believe the suspect is responsible for several other thefts and break and enters in the area .
