Police are asking for the public’s help in connection with the discovery of an adult man’s body in Kal Lake Sunday.
A stand-up paddleboarder on the south side of Cosens Bay, away from the beach area but near the cabins, made the discovery of the body under the water and alerted RCMP at around 2:30 p.m.
“It’s not believed there is any danger to the general public but police are asking anyone who was in that area or anyone who has any information to call us (250-545-7171) as soon as possible, or call Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477),” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.
It hasn’t been determined how long the body was in the lake.
The police and coroner’s office continue to investigate. An autopsy will be performed on the victim, whose identity hasn’t been released.
“We do have a tentative identification of the deceased but we are not prepared to release information regarding the man at this time,” said Noseworthy Monday afternoon.
Asked if the body had any signs of injury, Noseworthy said police are not prepared to speculate.
“It’s a very active investigation,” she said. “We’re trying to figure out what happened to this person.”
The death is being treated as suspicious, but Noseworthy points out RCMP treat all sudden deaths as suspicious until it’s determined what happened to the deceased.
